Hell in Television Series The Vampire Diaries: Brooke-shea McKinney 04-28-26

For those of you who have not seen the show “The Vampire Diaries” I highly recommend it for anyone who likes drama and supernatural things in one place. That being said this post does contain quite massive spoilers so if you are watching currently or plan to keep that in mind.

The figure above is known as Arcadius or Cade for short in the television series. He makes his first appearance in season 8 episode 4. Cade in this universe was known as the first ever psychic and upon his death he became the ruler of Hell, or Hell as it works in this capacity. Although he is a representation of the Devil he is not to be considered an equivalent to the biblical version of the Devil or Satan.

Cade is quite interesting for me especially because he has a quite in depth history that includes orginization in the Mediterranean world. See link below to see an in depth history of the character himself (wiki fandom Link).

“So, Cade damned them in return. With his last breath, he let loose a psychic blast so powerful that it created its own world. Call it Hell if you want. It doesn't matter what name you give it or whether you believe in it or not. Either way, that is where Cade feeds on the souls of the damned.”

This is a quote from the show that explains in short how the Hell present in this universe was created. After the original ruler Cade is killed by two main characters in the show Hell actually gets a new ruler and its one of the biggest plot twist in the entire series. This hell although resembles the same functions as one would assign to religious examples due to its punishing nature, it does not only house the damned or terrible it takes somewhat random people in the series who would be considered undeserving.

The hell in this show is also not permanent as it is destroyed at the very end of the series by use of magic and spirits to control a type of mystical energy known as “hell fire”, this fire was redirected back into hell thus rendering it destroyed along with any souls possibly still trapped there. It is unknown at the end of the series if those remains souls gained peace, another place, or afterlife.

This plot line in the show is vastly different from where the show starts and although their supernatural beings through the entirety this is the very climax of that supernatural aspect to the show. The show also ends on a very sad note that after watching 8 seasons made me cry ngl.
